This guy was a long time coming. His mom had not been bred for many years by her prior owner and then she slipped her first pregnancy for us. So, we were more than grateful when he came along. He was born sturdy and strong and packing fleece on. We mean packing! Honestly, we have not felt so many skin wrinkles on a newborn body and neck. They almost flapped over on the sides. We suspected this was an indicator the fleece will just keep coming.

He continued to look off-the-charts as far as we are concerned. Luster & fineness like no other and we mean ridiculously fine! He has a pedigree including Bracito, Torbio, Macqyver...

Comments had been that he could very well be the nicest this ranch has produced in over 15 years! We were disappointed that he did not get a chance to show 2020 do to all shows being canceled with Covid. Since the local show was also canceled spring of 2021 when opportunity presented, we decided to send him all the way to Nebraska to the nationals. In his first show at the AOA Nationals he took a first in his class. The judge had all nice things to say about him - and others that got to take a look made the comment he has an elite fleece type. We were planning to send him on to further shows but unfortunately a major mistake happened and he ended up shorn! Oh my feelings as I walked to a mat where he was getting the last bit of fleece buzzed off - face and all. While I tell myself it was only a hair cut before him, our best quality alpaca died of a perforated ulcer so I have to remind myself to keep things in perspective, though it will be one of those things even after I work through these emotions, I will think about for years to come...

We know he is Slick to the Max and has the makings herdsire, he was placed in the pet pen so no extra pellets or fiber supplements we given after April. He showed at Gold Country Gathering against some industry greats took a respectful 3rd in halter but a Reserve Champion in halter - with a 10 of 10 in fineness. He may show some more and get the added nutrition to bring back the blinging luster we remember seeing. Either way he will likely get dates soon. We plan to hold on to this one unless life leads us otherwise.
